NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation's largest grassroots, nonprofit organization aimed at improving quality of life for people living with mental health challenges and their families. We are the local affiliate of NAMI, serving lower Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Each month, our trained facilitators lead family support groups at local hospitals and churches, and 3 support groups for parents and caregivers of children with mental health issues. We sponsor NAMI educational programs locally, including the 12-week Family-to-Family course and NAMI Basics. We have established collaborative ties with local public and private social service and health agencies and treatment centers, the public school system, the faith community, and the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. NAMI Southwest CT also has a strong committee structure allowing for more participation by affiliate members.

NAMI Southwest CT was honored to have been chosen as the local charity for this event, which was a huge success!
The Stamford/Greenwich affiliate was established following the 1984 founding of NAMI-CT. One of its initial principals was Dee Murdoch, now a resident of Torrington, CT. In 1999, Loretta E. Duvall, a Greenwich resident, became its president and led the affiliate with energy and dedication for seven years. During this time her accomplishments in advocacy and reducing stigma were recognized by NAMI-CT, the American Psychiatric Association and other organizations. During her stewardship, the affiliate grew organizationally, gaining a set of bylaws and a board of directors in 2002.
In July of 2014, we changed our name to NAMI Southwest CT to reflect the fact that we serve the towns of Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Redding, Ridgefield, Westport, Weston, and Wilton.
