VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are the foundation of NAMI Southwest CT. Without volunteers, we would not be able to provide the support, education, and advocacy we offer to people affected by mental health challenges.
 
When you volunteer with NAMI Southwest CT, you help us in our mission to end the stigma of mental health conditions, and you help so many whose lives are touched by mental health struggles.
 
There are many opportunities to volunteer and make an impact. It need not involve a long-term commitment or take a lot of your time. Every little bit helps.

Community Education & Support

 

  • facilitate support groups (requires training)

  • teach F2F or Basics classes (requires training)

  • represent NAMI SW CT at community council meetings

  • maintain list of community mental health resources

  • assist with F2F classes

 

Outreach

 

  • outreach with: schools/PTA/PTO; churches, synagogues; veterans; minority populations

 

Health Fairs

 

  • represent NAMI SW CT at health fairs​

Speaker & Film Events

 

  • help brainstorm topics and speakers

  • help identify appropriate films

  • help plan, prepare for and publicize speaker meetings

  • help set up and clean up on evening of event

Communications Committee

 

  • distribute brochures and flyers in supermarkets, libraries, schools, etc.

 

Advocacy Committee

 

  • participate on NAMI CT's Public Policy Committee, which introduces and advocates for mental health legislation on the state level

  • prepare brief summaries of Committee meetings and legislative updates
